The M28 has a sound of its own, combining the air and clarity of a CK12 capsule with a tube-like response that grows richer with level. Its wider bandwidth and higher SPL capability let that character work across a broader range of sources, while its FET design brings the reliability and practicality of phantom-powered operation. Rather than being a good copy of a vintage model, it's a microphone that arrives somewhere no other microphone does.

MYBURGH - M28

A Modern Approach to an Iconic Capsule

The M28 incorporates one of the most respected capsules ever created: a German-made CK12 capsule which shares the flattering top-end voicing of the vintage C12s and 251s which made this capsule so revered. It offers all the presence and polish but with the consistency of a modern production unit and reliability backed by a 2-year capsule warranty.

Original Circuit Design

The M28’s circuit is an original design by Drew Myburgh, Eckehard Dux, and Andreas Grosser, not a 1960s recreation. The capsule is a historic design, but the circuit is all original and doesn’t try to be anything other than itself. The proprietary tube-like level-dependent behavior of the FET amplifier is clean at low levels, then introduces subtle second-order harmonics when pushed. The output transformer, a custom design by Pikatron, behaves differently from an original C12 transformer, contributing to the flat low-frequency extension to 30 Hz that gives you access to the unadulterated sound of the CK12 capsule.

"While reminiscent of the vintage greats, the M1 brings its own flavour. Its flexible pattern choice, high SPL handling and the unique True Cardioid sets it apart from anything else on the new and vintage market."

"What's better than an M1? Two M1's! One of the greatest mics around, the Myburgh M1. Still blows my mind how great a mic this is. A new classic."

“I sang all the vocals on the album on this beautiful thing. Chose it over a Neumann u47, u67 and m49. All in pristine condition. Absolutely amazing mic.”

Expanded Versatility

The M28 is versatile within its own character. Its 134dB maximum SPL makes this mic suitable for louder sources such as drums and brass, while its extended low-frequency response reveals more from sources such as acoustic bass and piano.

Five polar patterns extend that range further, with each pattern bringing its own voice as well as a different directional response. Wide cardioid, for example, combines some of the open character of omni while favoring sound from the front. If the M28’s voice is the one you want, its SPL capability, extended low end, and pattern choices give you fewer restrictions on where you can use it.

Built to Outlast Your Studio

Being FET-based, the M28 runs off standard phantom power, so there's no separate power unit to forget or maintain. It’s backed by a 5-year warranty, with a 2-year warranty on the capsule. Switches are a common point of failure in microphones, so we took care in sourcing the most durable stepped switches. Custom-designed and manufactured in-house, the M28 is built to outlast your studio.
